Joe Wheeler was home-schooled for fourteen of the first sixteen years of his life. He earned a Masters in History from Pacific Union College, a Masters in English from Sacramento State University, and Ph.D. in English (emphasis: History of Ideas) from Vanderbilt University. He has chaired English and Communication departments in colleges in three states. He is Founder and Executive Director of the Zane Grey's West Society, and is considered to be the world's foremost authorities on the life and times of frontier writer, Zane Grey. He is General Editor for Focus on the Family and is considered one of America's leading story anthologizers. He and his wife Connie live today in Conifer, Colorado, and have two grown children, Greg and Michelle, as well as two grandchildren.
